East Coast USA Roadtrip Gallery by Cavin B

May 14th 2014.

Today I will leave to the USA for a 2 and a half months vacation on the East Coast. For the people that know me they know how I tour with (punk) hardcore bands and go to a lot of gigs. Through this music I've made a lot of friends all over the world and I decided to visit some really good friends of mine on the East Coast. I threw my skates and my camera in my suitcase and figured I'd film a fews clips of people i know in NYC and Philly and use that one day for a montage edit.

I made plans to go to NYC for a week to skate and hang with the guys I met there in 2011 while filming for The Breakfast Club DVD and I'd spoken to Stefan Brandow about maybe meeting up to skate and see some bands play. Other than that there were no concrete plans to skate yet.

As I was planing my visits I remembered that Montre lives in Charlotte, NC so I shoot him a message to see if he was home and down to skate. He replied right away and said come over homie before I fly to Europe. Two days later I took a Megabus from Philly to Richmond where I stayed for one day (and took the best selfie in the world). From there I got an eight hour coach to Charlotte where Montre picked me up. I had to get used to the heat and skating was hard for me, Montre had no problems, cracked open a PBR and we stacked up the clips. At night we sat at the covered market where all of his RAD people hang and drink beer. We went to see SKABRAWL play on Saturday, whose members used to skate with Montre years ago. Kenneth Owens joined us the next days even though he was to busy packing for his move to New Orleans.

A few weeks later I went to NYC where Kyle Sola took me in for a few days. I skated downtown Manhattan with Mike V and Sean Grossman and at night Kyle scored some after work clips on his Adapt skates with fitness frames. The rest of the week I stayed with Nigel Hosang, Nigel is a older skater from Harlem and he showed me some OG spots. We skated a lot from spot to spot as they do in the city. It killed my legs so I took a day of to hang and bike in the city. On my way back that day I bumped into a rollerblader who looked familiar, we got to talking and I found out it was the NYC legend Joe Dedentro. I shot a trick of him and continued my bike trip. The last day I hooked up with Christian Delfino, Sean Grossman and some youngsters from Bushwick. Everybody managed to get some clips and I figured if I film some more in Philly I could actually make a full edit out of this trip.

Next stop was Pittsburgh, PA where I stayed with a old skater Ethan Rease who had a knee injury but wanted to try some skating for my edit. He got his skates out the closet after seven years. He tried one top soul and sadly his knee refused straight away. In Pittsburgh I met up with Stefan Brandow who hooked me up with some skaters from their for the days he couldn’t skate. One of them was Neil Owens who moved from Scotland with his wife for his job, Neil is a hard working business man who loves to roll after work and taught Chaz Sands how to skate back in the day, now he got filmed with a camera that used to belong to Chaz. Stefan and me made some plans to see some bands play since we both love the same music.

Most of my stay I was located in Philly where I visited the Denial Print Co to hang with my guys Adam Killgore and Chris Majette. Steve Iacono works there and asked me if I wanted to get some clips in Philly with him at the Tuesday Night Skate at the skatepark. There we made plans with Brent and Tyler to get more clips on the weekend and to finally skate Love Park.

I wanted to make an edit with all the clips but found out real soon I had enough of every city to make a section of each city. For every city I used a band or group from that city. For the NYC part Nigel called his mother to help with a good song that fitted the city. For the intro and outro i used a band from my friends ANGELDU$T who had their release show in Baltimore whilst I was in town.

I can safely say rollerblading and hardcore music got me a shit load of friends and takes me all over the world.
